TOTAL THEATRE AWARDS Eligibility Total Theatre Awards are given to professional artists and companies presenting work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. See www.edfringe.com for further information on the Fringe. We resist too narrow a definition of the term ‘total theatre' but imagine artists and companies leading innovative work within devised theatre, live art, visual performance, mime, experimental theatre, clown, circus, street arts, mask, cabaret and new variety, site specific, dance-theatre, puppet-theatre… and more. We are interested in new developments in theatre-making.
We intend to honour work from artists and companies at various stages of their professional development from the UK and other places in the world.
We will not consider work by student companies.
What the awarded artists and companies will have in common is a belief in (and demonstration of) the power of theatre and live performance to communicate, entertain and inspire audiences – cutting across boundaries of class, nationality and/or language. They will be pushing the form in new directions with a clear intention to produce work of the highest quality.
This does not exclude the use of spoken text but we would, in this case, be looking for work in which any spoken text is only one of the elements in a ‘total theatre’ production. |
