Underbelly Productions: Trash Test Dummies

When we see three workers really engaged with the physical actions of their job,  we can see how inventive people can be. It’s depends on their capacity to treat every action in their day-by-day life work with humour and creativity. The three Trash Test Dummies performers, in the guise of rubbish collectors, show with great ability how to make the most hilarious act out of a simple idea – taking the work of the bin man as their inspiration – a rich source of comedy.

These Australian circus artists, acclaimed in their native land and across the world,  know how to get in touch with an audience – they win you over from the start, and make you their friend. They masterfully create and execute an excellent show for all the family, and you are guaranteed to have a good time even if you don’t have children.

They slide from one action to another with perfect timing;  dynamic and fluid. One of many high points of the show is the way they manage to mix circus skills into the theatrical clown scenes. The circus skills merge seamlessly into the scene – they give us a great variety of techniques, including acrobatics and acrobalance (creating human pyramids and handstanding with ease), juggling, live music and clown acts, all perfectly executed. They also work well with objects; and they cross the boundaries of language using the gromelo nonsense speech of Commedia del Arte. The show also draws on classic scenes from cinema as material:  Batman and Chariots of Fire amongst others.

An excellent feel-good family show using circus skills to great effect in the creation of physical comedy.
